The first map shows the actual size of the world’s continents in proportion to each other and the second map shows the projected wealth of the world in 2015.
GET YOURSELF TOGETHER CANADA
…I’m confused by the above statement. This isn’t a Canada problem, this is a most countries of the world problem.
Look at Africa. And every Latin American country. And every South American country other than Brazil.
It is a most all of the world problem. But not a problem where all countries must try to be the wealthiest.
The current economic model most of the world follows is that of growing its working population so that it can sell stuff to other countries, which is why politicians sometimes freak out about dropping birthrates. It works, except that model can’t be maintained, or at least shouldn’t be, because of over-population.
Yes, Africa, the Middle East and South America should have healthy economies – but not to the detriment of everywhere else in the world. Instead countries should strive to have a level of wealth equal to their land and population, to be like Sweden. Or perhaps Mexico. Those being the only two countries I can easily identify as having predicted wealth equal to their geographic land mass.
So there should be two maps and, with a few exceptions where population density is so incredibly low, you should not be able to tell the difference between them.
I have no idea how people in wealthy countries could even begin to move towards that ideal aside from supporting fair trade or perhaps help setting up a business in those countries and maybe writing to their local government saying they want a sustainable economic model. In non-wealthy countries I admittedly have even less of an idea – be awesome? Support local industry, nurture local communities, build a business and write to your government as long as they won’t send someone to kill you?
It’s a worldwide problem. Therefore all of the world needs to fix it.
